New Delhi: The enforcement directorate's (ED) questions to former Congress president Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case are yet to end. Rahul Gandhi will appear before the ED on Wednesday (June 15, 2022) for the third consecutive day. Here Rahul Gandhi has also received a setback from a court in Thane, Maharashtra. The court rejected Rahul Gandhi's plea seeking transfer of a defamation suit filed by an RSS volunteer. According to the information, Rahul Gandhi's petition was dismissed in December last year, but the order was uploaded on the website on Tuesday (June 14, 2022). In fact, vivek champanerkar, a sangh volunteer, filed the defamation suit in 2019 through his lawyer Aditya Mishra. It had said that the RSS is a social organisation and it is getting defamed due to the comments made by Rahul Gandhi and Communist Party of India (CPM) general secretary Sitaram Yechury. Champanerkar had alleged that Gandhi and Yechury were defaming the RSS over the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh. Champanerkar had asked Rahul Gandhi for a token compensation of Re 1. The matter is presently sub-judice before the Civil Judge, Senior Division. Seeking transfer of the case, Rahul Gandhi's counsel had argued that it should be transferred to the civil judge, junior division, as the compensation sought by the plaintiff was less than Rs 5 lakh. The Principal District Judge, in his order, said that Rahul Gandhi can raise the issue of financial jurisdiction with the same judge who is hearing the case.
