Tamil Nadu: With continuous rains continuing in portions of the state on Friday, a flood warning has been issued in various districts of Tamil Nadu. The water level in the Vaigai dam reached 69 feet, much below the full reservoir capacity of 71 feet, prompting a flood alert in Madurai. The Central Water Commission said the River Kallar was flowing above the highest flood level at its observation station in Poyyapakkam, Ranipet district, and the River Araniar was flowing above the 'highest flood' level at its observation site in Puduvayal, Tiruvallur district. Meanwhile, after heavy rainfall in the region as a result of cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal, the stagnant water is being pumped out at T-Nagar in Chennai. Due to a depression over the Bay of Bengal, heavy rain is expected in parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the next several days, causing flooding in some areas. Schools in Coimbatore were also closed on Wednesday as a result of the weather department's red signal. After the weather department predicted severe rainfall for the next few days, the Tamil Nadu government declared local vacations for nine districts on November 10 and 11: Chennai, Kancheepuram, Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, and Mayiladuthurai. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted light to moderate rainfall in most areas of the state over the next 24 hours, with heavy rainfall in isolated areas.
