Jaipur: Asaram Bapu, the controversial spiritual leader serving a life sentence for sexual assault, has been granted a significant reprieve by the Rajasthan High Court. The court has approved a seven-day parole for Asaram to undergo medical treatment. He will travel to Maharashtra for this treatment while being escorted by police. The decision came from a division bench led by Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati, who approved the interim parole on humanitarian grounds. Asaram is currently imprisoned at Jodhpur Central Jail, where he experienced a sudden health crisis. He complained of chest pain, prompting the jail administration to transfer him to Jodhpur AIIMS for medical evaluation. Upon his admission to the hospital, Asaram's condition was assessed, and he was admitted for further treatment. The news of his deteriorating health and subsequent hospitalization attracted a substantial number of his supporters to the hospital, who gathered outside to express their concern and support. Asaram's parole for medical reasons highlights a temporary suspension of his life sentence, allowing him to seek specialized care outside the prison while remaining under police surveillance.
