NEW DELHI: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on August 16 handed over multiple indigenous weapons, arms and ammunition to the Indian Army to further strengthen the country's defence sector.This consignment of weapons consists of anti-personnel landmine 'Nipun', landing attack craft for operations in Pangong Tso lake, infantry combat vehicles and many other weapon systems. "The Union government has taken many policy choices to help encourage indigenization of the defence sector," stated Lieutenant General Harpal Singh. Mines, direct-fire weapons, and infantry combat vehicles are some of these indigenous weaponry. In light of the country's expanding border challenges, Rajnath Singh gave the Army the weapons. The weaponry includes F-INSAS (Futuristic Infantry Soldier as a System) rifles, AK-203 assault rifles, and the brand-new "Nipun" anti-personnel mine. The arms and ammunition have been developed by Nagpur-based private firm Economic Explosives Ltd (EEL) and other Indian defence manufacturing companies. Lt Gen. Harpal Singh, the Indian Army's Chief Engineer, informed the nation on this occasion that the Army is prepared to handle any potential security challenge, whether it comes from China's high altitude regions in the Ladakh sector or Pakistan's western desert.
