Rajya Sabha: Congress moves an adjournment notice on inflation

NEW DELHI: Congress MP from Anandpur Sahib Manish Tewari gave an adjournment notice in the Lok Sabha on Monday, a day after a protest march against inflation in Jaipur.

"The high rate of inflation has impacted the poorer segment of the country," Tewari stated in his notice, "prices of oil and vegetables have skyrocketed, and fuel is breaking new records virtually every day." Oil marketing corporations have been maintaining diesel and petrol rates in major Indian cities for some time now. Diesel and petrol rates in Delhi were Rs 86.67 and Rs 95.41 per litre, respectively, while prices in Mumbai's financial capital remained steady at Rs 94.14 and Rs 109.98. However, the costs of vegetables and mustard oil are rising every day, and the government is powerless to control them, according to Tewari.

The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Bill, 2021, which was tabled on December 6, is expected to be debated and passed in the Lok Sabha. The Bill to further alter the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, will be considered by Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. She will also make a push for the Bill's passage in the House.

The opposition, on the other hand, will introduce a statutory resolution declaring that the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Ordinance, 2021, promulgated by the President on September 30, 2021, is unconstitutional.
