One country one ration card for a ration card, will be able to buy ration from any shop: Ram Vilas Paswan

Patna: Union Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said on Thursday that the government is moving towards 'one country one ration card' to enable beneficiaries to get their share of food grains from any ration shop anywhere in the country. Ram Vilas Paswan was speaking at a conference with the State Food Secretaries on food security issues.

Officials from Food Corporation of India (FCI), Central Storage Corporation (CWC) and State Storage Corporation (SWC) were also present at the conference. An official statement said that Ram Vilas Paswan has conducted several operations including efficient implementation of the National Food Security Act, complete computerization, transparency in storage and distribution of foodgrains and coordination with FCI, CWC and SWC Depot Depot Online System (DOS).

The statement said that the meeting decided to move towards "one country one ration card", which will ensure that all beneficiaries, especially migrants, can use PDS across the country from any ration shop near them. The statement said the move will provide freedom to beneficiaries as they will not be tied to any one ration shop and reduce their dependence on shop owners and rein in corruption.
