VADODARA: A special court under the protection of children from of sexual offenses (POSCO) sentenced a man to death for raping and kiling a minor girl in 2019. Sanjay Baria was given the death penalty and fined Rs 1.30 lakh by Special Judge J. A. Thakkar on Thursday. The judge pronounced: "She was only a bit older than his daughter, yet Sanjay Baria raped and killed her. This instance is the rarest of rare because although it was a serious crime, Baria shows no regret for what he did." Sanjay abducted the eight-year-old girl from the Goraj village slums in Vadodara on May 17, 2019. He taken her to some bushes, sexually assaulted and strangled her, and then left the scene. The victim's body was found from bushes the following morning after the police were notified that the parents had started looking for the missing girl and were unable to locate her. Since there were no witnesses to the kidnapping or the girl leaving the ghetto, police turned to a sniffer dog for assistance. The dog helped them find the body and apprehend Baria, who was in the slum at the time. The court ruled Baria guilty based on medical evidence and ordered the District Legal Aid Service to compensate the victim's relatives.
