Ration rice seized Cuddalore, Six arrested

CUDDALORE: On December 26 night, sleuths from the Civil Supplies-Criminal Investigation Department seized 23 tonnes of ration rice intended for distribution under the public distribution system and detained six people in connection with it. M. Ranjith, S. Velmurugan, U. Purushothaman, G. Perumal, M. Ramachandiran, and M. Ramalingam were arrested.

A squad conducting vehicle inspections at Maankulam near Veppur detained a lorry after receiving a tip. The team searched the car and discovered 23 tons of rice intended for distribution through the public distribution system. The rice was taken into custody and given to the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation.

The suspects allegedly diverted rice intended for public distribution and stored it in the truck, according to police. According to the investigation, they were also collecting PDS rice from the neighbouring districts with the intention of selling it in Andhra Pradesh, where it would be polished and resold. A case has been filed, and more investigation is underway.
