Repealing black laws is a step in right direction, says Navjot Sidhu

New Delhi: Navjot Singh Sidhu, the Punjab Congress chairman, called Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement on Friday, of repealing the three farm laws as a ''step in the right direction''.

'Repealing the black laws is a positive step forward. Kisan Morcha's Satyagrah gets a historic success. You've reaped the benefits of your devotion... Revival of farming in Punjab through a road map should be the top priority for the punjab govt ….accolades,'' Sidhu remarked

Since November 2020, hundreds of farmers have camped at Delhi's three borders, demanding that the government repeal the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; Farmers' (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020; and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

Farmers have also been calling for a new law to ensure that crops receive the minimum support price (MSP). The Centre, which undertook 11 rounds of formal consultation with farmers, stated that the new rules are pro-farmer, while demonstrators argued that the legislations will leave them at the whim of companies.
