Samajwadi Party and RLD Forge Alliance for Lok Sabha Elections

Lucknow: Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav announced the Samajwadi Party's alliance with Jayant Chaudhary's Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The SP supremo expressed his congratulations on the alliance and urged unity for victory. According to party sources, RLD is expected to contest on 7 to 8 seats in Western UP through this alliance.

Earlier, the Congress held a seat-sharing meeting with Samajwadi Party leaders in Delhi. Salman Khurshid, a Congress leader, shared details of each seat and expressed hope for the alliance to be finalized before the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra reaches Uttar Pradesh.

The political landscape in India is witnessing significant changes as the 2024 Lok Sabha elections approach. The emerging INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance), a coalition of opposition parties, including the Congress, is gearing up to challenge the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), aiming to prevent it from securing a third consecutive term in the 2024 elections.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the NDA won 353 seats, the UPA secured 91, and Others claimed 98. The voting occurred in seven phases between April 11 and May 19, with approximately 67 percent of nearly 900 million eligible voters participating in the election to choose 542 members of the Lok Sabha.
