Sharda Chit Fund: CBI approaches Supreme Court against Rajiv Kumar's anticipatory bail

Despite the CBI's opposition, he managed to get bail. Now the CBI has filed a petition in the Supreme Court for his anticipatory bail. The CBI has challenged the October 1 order of the Calcutta High Court in this petition. While granting anticipatory bail to former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, the High Court had said in its order that it was not a questionable matter for custody.

After the High Court order, on 3 October, Rajiv Kumar surrendered in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate who released him on two bail of Rs 50,000 each. The Saradha group is accused of defrauding the public of around Rs 2,500 crore. Rajiv Kumar is accused that the Saradha group assured the public to return the money at a better rate if he invested in it.

When the West Bengal government set up a special investigation team to investigate the scam, it was Rajiv Kumar who headed it. But later in 2014 the Supreme Court handed over the scam to CBI along with other chit fund cases. The Saradha chit fund scam came to light in 2013 during Rajiv Kumar's tenure as Vidhannagar Police Commissioner.Let us tell you that CM Mamta Banerjee and the Central Government had come face to face regarding this matter.
