KINNAUR: In response to the ongoing rain and flood-related emergencies, the Deputy Commissioner of Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur District took swift action to ensure the safety of the local population. With the Cloudburst in Kinnaur triggering a flood-like situation and blocking the Karcham Sangla Chitkul road, the authorities deemed it necessary to declare holidays for all schools in the Sub-Division Nichar and Tehsil Sangla regions from 20th to 22nd July.

The situation in Himachal Pradesh remains critical, as the death toll has now surpassed 130 in the last 26 days due to rains, floods, and landslides. As of Wednesday, five new fatalities were reported, and 12 people are still reported missing. The state's Revenue Minister, Jagat Singh Negi, confirmed the severity of the situation, highlighting that two teams from the Union government are on-site to assess the flood and rain losses in Solan and Mandi districts.

The scale of the devastation is staggering, with 572 houses completely damaged and an additional 4,703 houses partially damaged. Alongside this, 148 shops and 1,286 cowsheds have also been affected by the rain-induced calamities. The State Disaster Management Authority estimates that Himachal Pradesh has suffered a financial loss of Rs. 4808.79 crore so far this monsoon season.

In light of the ongoing disasters, the state government is on high alert, working tirelessly to address the challenges posed by the heavy rains and floods. The situation is being closely monitored to provide timely assistance and relief to those affected.

The natural disasters, including landslides and flash floods, have underscored the need for proactive disaster management measures to mitigate the impact on communities living in hilly regions prone to such weather-related hazards.
