Thakur's statement was reported by the media.
The impact of continuous rainfall in Himachal Pradesh has been catastrophic, triggering cloudbursts, landslides, and floods. Official data released last week reveals that the toll of lives lost has reached a staggering 108. Among the states affected in North India, Himachal Pradesh has endured the most severe consequences. In response, Union Home Minister Amit has approved the early disbursement of the second installment of the central share of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), amounting to Rs.180.40 crore.
To address this unprecedented crisis, a total of 11 teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in Himachal Pradesh. These teams, equipped with rescue boats and other essential tools, are diligently working to carry out rescue operations in the affected areas.
Furthermore, Paonta Sahib has witnessed the deployment of one Column of 1 PARA SF and 205 Army Aviation Squadron to facilitate civilian evacuation efforts. Two MI-17V5 helicopters have been specifically assigned for this mission, aiming to provide swift and efficient evacuation services.
The relentless rainfall over Himachal Pradesh shows no signs of abating, as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several areas on Sunday. According to the Met department's tweet on Sunday afternoon, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.6 to 204.4 mm) from July 16 to July 17.
IMD Shimla has also warned of a moderate to high risk of flash floods in Chamba, Kangra, Sirmaour, Shimla, and Kullu districts until July 17. Residents living in these watersheds and surrounding areas are advised to remain cautious.
The torrential downpour in northern India has triggered numerous landslides, leading to road blockages and stranding many individuals. However, the tireless efforts of NDRF teams and other disaster management personnel have resulted in the successful rescue of thousands of stranded individuals from the inundated low-lying regions.
The situation in Himachal Pradesh remains critical, demanding immediate attention and support from all stakeholders. Authorities continue to monitor the developing situation closely, aiming to mitigate further damage and ensure the safety of the affected population.
