Uttarakhand: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Harbans Kapoor passed away in Dehradun. Kapoor served as the Speaker of the Uttarakhand Assembly from 2007 to 2012. The State Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed grief over the leader's death and wished strength for the family members of the departed soul. Kapoor has also served as a minister in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. He had already spent four terms as an MLA in the Uttar Pradesh parliament before to the formation of Uttarakhand. After the establishment of Uttarakhand, he extended his winning trend by becoming an MLA four more times. Kapoor's first victory in an assembly election was in 1989, and he has remained invincible since then. In 1985, he received his lone defeat in his first assembly election. Kapoor has been in politics for four decades. From July 11, 1991, to December 6, 1992, he served as Uttar Pradesh's minister of state for rural development and labour. In Uttarakhand, he was also the minister of state for urban development from 2001 to 2002. He recently attended the Uttarakhand assembly's three-day winter session, which began on December 9. Kapoor, who was born on January 7, 1946, was famed for his simplicity.
