New Delhi: On Martyrs' Day (Shaheed Diwas) today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru, saying their willingness to die for the nation will always inspire the countrymen. On March 23, 1931, Britishers executed the three freedom fighters in the Lahore conspiracy case. Shaheed Diwas is held on March 23 in remembrance of Indian revolutionaries Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev, who were hanged by the British Government in 1931. Bhagat Singh was 23 years old, Rajguru was 22 years old, and Sukhdev was 23 years old when they were hanged in Lahore Central Jail. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Biplobi Bharat Gallery at Victoria Memorial Hall in Kolkata via video conferencing on the occasion of Shaheed Diwas at 6 p.m. Meanwhile, the newly-elected Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration in Punjab has designated March 23 as a state holiday in commemoration of Bhagat Singh's death.
