UP: Uncontrolled truck hits two passenger vehicles, 18 people killed

Sambhal: A speeding truck hit two passenger vehicles on Lucknow-Delhi National Highway in Rauja police station area of Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. At least 16 people have been reported killed in the incident and five others are said to be seriously injured. Superintendent of Police (Nagar) Dinesh Tripathi said that a speeding truck carrying cloth from Sitapur collided with a tent near Jamka intersection on Lucknow-Delhi National Highway, causing it to fall into the pit.

Dinesh Tripathi said that the truck later hit another passenger vehicle and overturned uncontrollably. Tripathi said that 16 people, who were sitting on a tempo and a passenger train, died on the spot. The dead included a woman and three children. The Superintendent of Police said, the auto was on its way from Bartara to Shahjahanpur while the other vehicle was on its way from Shahjahanpur to Jang Bahadur Ganj.

Tripathi said that the police, who rushed to the spot to receive information, called for a crane and removed the truck after which the bodies could be pulled out with great difficulty. He said, five others were also seriously injured in the incident. They have been admitted to the Medical College of Shahjahanpur for treatment. The bodies of the deceased have been shifted to a post mortem.
