A primary school teacher in Demow, Assam's Sivasagar district, is said to have committed suicide after being unable to utilise a government smartphone app. The use of the RIIMS App was previously made mandatory for the teaching staff of government-run schools by an order issued by the Assam government. The app, which is based on artificial intelligence, is used to track the attendance of school instructors. Aside from that, the software keeps track of students and teachers in a database. Kali Prasad Chetia was recognised as the dead. He is said to be the headmaster of Demow's Lakhimi Pathar LP School. He was said to have hanged himself from the ceiling in one of the school's classrooms. Chetia, according to locals, experienced some difficulties with the application. He was believed to be concerned about his financial situation since the government said in its application notification that anyone who failed to instal the application would have their pay affected.
