Mumbai: Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray hit back at Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis for his remark that 'Gujarat is not Pakistan'. Former minister Thackeray questioned whether Maharashtra is Pakistan, which took the project to Gujarat. Thackeray asked, 'Is Maharashtra Pakistan that you drove the project to Gujarat, what is the mistake committed by the youth of Maharashtra?' A war of words is going on between the Shiv Sena and the BJP due to the move of the Vedanta Foxconn project to the neighbouring state. On Friday, Fadnavis had said that the neighbouring state is not Pakistan. He had also accused the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government of Maharashtra of corruption. The senior BJP leader had said, 'Gujarat is not Pakistan. This is our brother. It is a healthy competition. We want to overtake Karnataka and all. The policy of the opposition was to stop everything and with such a policy Maharashtra could not overtake Gujarat.' Fadnavis said that he had personally met Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal as soon as he became deputy CM in late June. Maharashtra had put forward the same proposal as Gujarat to the company, but they were told that the decision to set up a semiconductor unit in Gujarat had reached the final stage. Devendra Fadnavis alleged that due to the tenure of the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi government of Maharashtra, 10 per cent commission had to be paid for taking any subsidy. It is noteworthy that Vedanta-Foxconn chose Gujarat to set up its semiconductor plant. The Eknath Shinde-Devendra Fadnavis government of Maharashtra is facing criticism for this.
