Sports Ministry withdraws recognition granted to 54 Sports Federation

New Delhi: Following the order of Delhi High Court, the Sports Ministry has withdrawn the temporary recognition of 54 National Sports Federations within 24 hours. All these federations used to get provisional recognition for one year, which the sports ministry has to renew. In March, the Sports Ministry was delayed in giving recognition due to the outbreak of Corona epidemic, due to which these sports federations could not get the monetary amount from the government.

On Wednesday, Delhi High Court had said that the Sports Ministry did not comply with our order of 7 February and took its decision without giving advance notice. The court said that the sports ministry should have informed the court before giving provisional recognition, but without informing the court, the sports ministry has moved the temporary recognition of 54 National Sports Federation this year.

In its order, Delhi High Court had asked the Sports Ministry to issue a fresh notice within 2 days and withdraw the notification issued by September 30 to extend the temporary recognition. The Sports Ministry had earlier this month extended temporary recognition of 54 Sports Federations.
