In fact, Chidambaram's CBI custody is ending on Monday and if the CBI is not given custody by the court, P. Chidambaram would have to go to judicial custody. Chidambaram's lawyer opposed this saying that either the court grant interim bail to Chidambaram otherwise release orders of his under house arrest.

In the Supreme Court, Chidambaram's lawyer Kapil Sibal said that court has not heard our appeals, we had responded to their notice at midnight. We have also challenged the CBI remand. He said that "the CBI notice was not legal as our case was in the top court. 74-year-old P. Chidambaram could be kept under house arrest". On this, the Supreme Court has said that if the lower court dismisses their anticipatory bail petition then the CBI custody of the former finance minister will be extended for 3 days.
