Swapna Suresh says, Shivasankar assisted her in escaping Kerala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The gold smuggling case, which was the main plank of the Congress-led opposition in the 2020 local body elections and the 2021 April 6 Assembly elections, though it failed as the LDF led by Pinarayi Vijayan returned to power with a massive mandate, is back to haunt the ruling Left, with prime accused Swapna Suresh claiming that the then principal secretary to Vijayan. All of the advancements were known to M. Sivasankar.

The single biggest campaign point of the Congress-led Opposition in the 2020 local body polls and the 2021 April 6 Assembly polls was the Kerala gold smuggling case, and thanks to Covid, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan came out clean by winning both polls, and the ruling Left often used to ask, what happened to the allegations levelled against him, the people have dumped everything and given him the thumps up until Friday. Now, following the stunning allegations of the case's key accused, Swapna Suresh, who claims that Vijayan's then-principal secretary, M. Sivasankar, was aware of everything, it remains to be seen.

She broke her silence after Sivasankar's memoirs, written in Malayalam, claimed that Swapna defrauded him by handing him an iPhone bought with bribe money. He also denied any involvement in securing her a five-figure monthly salary in Kerala's IT department.
