Chennai: Barely three days have passed since VK Sasikala, a close aide of former Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa, and authorities in various parts of the state have started taking action against the jailed leader and his family members. The expelled leader of the AIDMK has recently returned to the state after completing a four-year jail sentence in Bangalore in a corruption case. Sasikala's properties located in Kanchipuram, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, and Chengalpattu districts have been seized. The administration has seized more than 26,000 sq ft in Thanjavur, 144 acres in Kanchipuram, and about 1,050 acres in Thiruvarur. Thiruvarur's property was held by the company owned by Sasikala and her family members. The companies bought these assets between 1994 and 1996. District officials said in official statements that Sasikala's properties are being seized as per the court's order on disproportionate assets. However, there is also opposition from the administration to carry out this action as the former leader of AIDMK was convicted in these cases four years ago. Apart from this, there are only three months left in the state assembly elections.
