Chennai: Tamilnadu Agriculture Minister R.K. Dorikkannu died late Saturday night due to coronavirus. He was 72 years old. His death was informed by a senior official of Kaveri Hospital. In a statement issued here by Arvindan Selvaraj said, "With great sorrow we are giving information that Agriculture Minister Thiru R. Dorikkannu has passed away at 11:15 pm on 31.10.2020". Earlier on Saturday, Selvaraj said that the functionality of vital organs of Dorikkannu is declining and they are on life support system. The minister, who was elected MLA from Papanasam assembly constituency, was admitted to the hospital on October 13 after having severe breathing problems and then tested Corona test positive. Dorikkannu had complained of ill health while visiting Salem to pay tribute to the mother of the state CM K. Palaniswami. After the minister was admitted to the hospital, Selvaraj said, " He is currently on ECMO and ventilator. The late minister first won the 2006 Assembly elections from Papanasam seat in Tamil Nadu assembly. And after that he also won in the elections of 2011 and 2016. He was given the first ministerial post by the late CM J. Jayalalitha in 2016. Earlier DMK MLA J. Anbazhagan died on June 10, 2020 due to covid.
