Operation Blue Star ran from 3 to 8 June 1984 in Amritsar, Punjab. This operation was conducted by the Indian Army in the Golden Temple against the alleged terrorist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and his associates. In reality, the Prime Minister Indira Gandhi wanted complete control of the Harmandir Sahib complex in Amrit sir, where Bhindranwale had built its headquarters since 1980.
Gandhi had first consulted the Army Lieutenant General SK Sinha about the evacuation of the Golden Temple in order to free the Harminder Sahib complex from Bhindranwale's control. But Sinha advised Gandhi that it would not be good to do violence at the religious place of Sikhs. Then, Gandhi handed over the command of this task to the Army Chief General Arun Sridhar Vaidya. Ledge Vaidya, along with Sundarji, made a plan for Operation Blue Star and was executed.
Apart from this, a period of firing continued for five-six days inside the popular and famous temple of Sikhs i.e. Golden Temple. Bhindranwale eventually died in this match. Many of his companions were also caught alive from the temple and the operation was successful. The victory was tied to Vaidya's head, but the price was yet to be paid. Vaidya's name was also included in the people of politics and the army, who were targeted by those supporting Bhindranwale. Vaidya also feared the danger of life.
