Flood in Tamil Nadu, massive devastation

Chennai: In Tamil Nadu, heavy rain is still wreaking devastation. Nine persons, including four children, were killed in a home collapse in Vellore district in Tamil Nadu yesterday as a result of heavy rainfall. Continuous rain is wreaking havoc on the state's economy.

While it has been learned that the Central Government has sent a team to Tamil Nadu to inspect the damage caused by last week's severe rains and floods. The Inter-Ministerial Central Team will assess the severity of the flooding in the state and make recommendations for extra central assistance. Representatives from the Ministries and Departments of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Department of Finance (Expenditure), Ministries of Water Power, Power, Road, Transport and Highways, and Rural Development are expected to join the team, which is led by Rajiv Sharma, Joint Secretary, NATGRID, Ministry of Home Affairs.

Where it has been disclosed that the Central Team may visit the State immediately due to the gravity of the matter. After returning from the visit and conducting the final evaluation, the Disaster Management Division will submit 15 copies of its report to the Union Home Ministry within a week. It issued an order to appoint every officer familiar with the ongoing schemes and programmes in the areas to help the team.
