These States to Witness Heavy Rains: IMD Predicts Intense Weather for Karnataka and More

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted "very heavy" rainfall in Karnataka for the next five days, starting from June 7. Bengaluru, the capital city, experienced light showers on Wednesday.

In the last 24 hours, several states including Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Goa, have seen heavy to very heavy rainfall, as reported by the IMD.

IMD's Weather Alert

The IMD's latest release explains that a cyclonic circulation over south Telangana and nearby areas, combined with a trough extending from south Maharashtra to the southeast Arabian Sea off south Kerala, will lead to light to moderate rainfall. This weather will be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) across Konkan and Goa, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal over the next five days.

Specifically, very heavy rainfall is expected in Karnataka until June 11. Heavy rain is also anticipated in Telangana, Kerala, and Mahe during this period.

Orange Alert in Kerala

The IMD has issued an Orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in three districts of Kerala: Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad for today. For tomorrow, the Orange alert extends to Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasargod.

A Yellow alert, indicating moderate rainfall, has been issued for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kannur, and Kasargod for today. For tomorrow, the Yellow alert will be in place for Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts.
