New Delhi: During the discussion on the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2021 bill in the Rajya Sabha during the winter session, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Derek O'Brien threw the rulebook of Parliament towards the Chair of the Rajya Sabha Speaker objecting to the manner in which the bill was passed. Derek then walked out of the House. After the Rajya Sabha met for the day, there was a lot of criticism of the behaviour of the TMC MP in the House. He was also suspended from Parliament for this act of violating the dignity of Parliament. After the suspension from Parliament yesterday, Derek O'Brien approached 12 already suspended Rajya Sabha members in the Parliament premises today. Meanwhile, Derek O'Brien lashed out at the Modi government. TMC MP said, "I did not throw any book." He further said that Modi and Amit Shah are destroying democracy and they bring a knife to the House. While talking about Derek O'Brien's misbehaviour, Dr Sasmit Patra, the Presiding Speaker of the Upper House, said in his statement against the Election Law (Amendment) Bill 2021 in the House that, Derek O'Brien had raised the question of order. On which the Deputy Chairman gave the order. According to Patra, the rule book could have been placed on the seat, the general secretary or anyone. On the other hand, Union Minister Piyush Goyal has termed it as an insult to the country. However, this bill has also been passed by Rajya Sabha.
