TMC attack on BJP workers ahead of Tripura Local Body polls, 19 injured

Agartala: At least 19 people have been injured in clashes between supporters of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Trinamool Congress (TMC) at Teliamura in Khowai district of Tripura following which prohibitory orders have been imposed under Section 144 of the CRPC in the area. Police have informed in this regard on Friday.

He said, two policemen were among those injured in the clash a few days before the civic polls in the state, after which the administration had to impose Section 144 in wards 13, 14 and 15 of the Teliamura Municipal Council. An official statement issued late on Thursday said, "In an order issued today, Teliamura Sub Divisional Magistrate Mohammad Sajjad P has imposed Section 144 in 13, 14 and 15 ward areas of Teliamura Municipal Council from today to maintain peace, law and order. The order will remain in force till November 24.''

Assistant Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Subrata Chakraborty said that TMC workers were protesting in the Kalitala area around 9.30 pm on Wednesday and approached the BJP office. He said supporters of both sides came face to face, leading to clashes. Suddenly, TMC workers attacked BJP supporters, after which they also retaliated.
