Chennai: Tamil Nadu police detained five people with 15 kg of ambergris which worth crores in international market at Tindivanam. Mohanarangan, 62, Sathyamoorthy, 34, Chandrashekhar, 33, Murugan, 32, and Lakshmipathi, 32, were all arrested. Ambergris or whale vomit sells for a lot of money in the international market. Police took the material and arrested five people after they got a tip-off from someone who knew them. On Wednesday night, a police team was patrolling and found five people walking out of a house with a travel bag. When they looked inside, they found ambergris. When questioned, the arrested people told the police that they were scouting for potential buyers to sell the 15-kilo of ambergris worth crores of rupees in international market. They were produced to the court and put in judicial custody. The police have also told the forest department in Villupuram.
