Tomato rates touching sky, price increased after lockdown

New Delhi: Tomato prices in all the cities of the country has increased. For the past few weeks, tomato prices have been steadily rising. In most cities, the price of tomatoes in retail has reached Rs 60-70 kg. Consumer Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said that there is a lot of possibility of tomato spoilage in this season, so there is an increase in the price.

Ram Vilas Paswan said that due to no harvest time, prices of tomatoes are generally higher from July to September. Due to the quality of tomato perishable, its price fluctuates more. He said that prices will come back to normal after the supply improves. A month ago it was selling at a rate of about Rs 20 per kg. According to the ministry, retail prices of tomatoes have reached Rs 60 per kg in metro cities other than Chennai, which was around Rs 20 per kg a month ago. Tomato is being sold at Rs 70-80 per kg in some areas.

Tomato prices in Gurugram, Gangtok, Siliguri and Raipur have gone up to Rs 70 per kg, while in Gorakhpur, Kota and Dimapur, people are getting tomatoes at Rs 80 per kg. Even in the producing states, the price in Hyderabad has increased to Rs 37 per kg.
