A 29-year-old man was swimming in the Rio Caas River when he was attacked by a large crocodile and dragged under water. He was a football player for the neighborhood Deportivo Rio Caas team who passed away from his wounds from the assault. Jesus Alberto Lopez Ortiz, his wife, and their two young children, ages eight and three, went for a leisurely day by the Rio Caas River on Saturday, July 29, when the horrifying incident took place. Locals and visitors in the area shockingly recorded the horrific incident on video. The aggressive crocodile is then shown being pursued by locals and authorities before being shot and killed. Locals collected the crocodile's remains and set them on the riverbank. Locals started looking for Lopez after the gruesome discovery of the crocodile attack in an effort to find his body for religious rites, according to a report. Deportivo Rio Caas, the football team Lopez played for, held a funeral service for him on July 31. They also started a donation drive to help Lopez's family, who are now without their main provider. Deportivo Rio Caas' Facebook page posted information about the incident, including information on how the community can support the bereaved family by making donations.
