A 4.9-magnitude earthquake was detected in Nepal on Tuesday at 8:52 p.m., making this the second earthquake to strike the country in around five hours. According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake occurred 10 km below the surface of the earth. The epicentre of the earthquake was 90 km southeast of Pithoragarh in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, which borders Nepal. The National Center for Seismology tweeted, "Earthquake of Magnitude:6.3, Occurred on 09-11-2022, 01:57:24 IST, Lat: 29.24 & Long: 81.06, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Nepal." According to NCS data, the preceding earthquake took place at a depth of 100km 155 kilometres northeast of Kathmandu. Major earthquakes recorded in the country: On October 19, Kathmandu was shaken by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1. According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre, on July 31 at 8:13 am IST, a 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal 147 km ESE of Kathmandu in the Martim Birta of Khotang district (NEMRC). It was discovered that the epicentre was 10 kilometres deep and located at 27.14 degrees North latitude and 86.67 degrees East longitude in eastern Nepal. An earthquake of high strength measuring magnitude 7.8 on the Richter scale struck central Nepal between Kathmandu, the country's capital, and Pokhara earlier in 2015. 8,964 people had have died and close to 22,000 injured. The Gorkha earthquake also caused tremors to be felt in several other places in north India, as well as in Lahore, Pakistan, Lhasa, Tibet, and Dhaka, Bangladesh. The recent earthquakes in Nepal have resulted in unparalleled loss of life and destruction of property, making the need for carefully thought-out policy measures to handle such disasters necessary. In 1934, Nepal experienced its most severe earthquake on record. The cities of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Patan were all destroyed by the 8.0 magnitude earthquake. It has been determined that the Indian plate is being lowered 5 cm per year beneath the Eurasian plate. This causes the young fold mountains of the Himalayas to form and grow in height, and it also renders the area vulnerable to earthquakes.
