In response to recent developments, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised nationals to avoid areas with riots and protests and stay away from crowded places. The Ministry also encourages UAE citizens to register with the "Twajudi" service, which offers consular support for those abroad.
In a related advisory, Bangladeshi missions have urged their nationals in the UAE to maintain calm and comply with local laws. They stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence and adherence to regulations in the host country.
This comes after recent legal actions against Bangladeshi expatriates in the UAE, including life sentences for three individuals and deportation orders for 54 others following their involvement in protests.
The situation in Bangladesh has been volatile since early July, when job quotas were reintroduced, sparking widespread protests. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to India on August 5 amid growing unrest. The Supreme Court's decision to overturn the job quotas, which favored specific groups for civil service roles, further fueled the demonstrations.
The unrest has led to a nationwide internet blackout, disrupted telecommunications, and imposed curfews. The military has been deployed to control the situation, with at least 300 people reported dead.
Additionally, the UAE has advised its citizens in the UK to exercise extreme caution as violent riots have plagued multiple cities there. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has similarly warned against visiting areas with ongoing demonstrations and large gatherings.
