Ukraine crisis: Russian forces attack major oil refinery in central Ukraine

KIEV: Russian forces launched a rocket attack on a large oil refinery in Kremenchuk, Ukraine's central Poltava area, said  Dmytro Lunin, the chairman of the Poltava regional military-civilian administration.

On Telegram, Lunin stated, "Today's shelling of the Poltava region is likely the largest throughout the full-scale war." According to Xinhua news report, twelve rockets hit infrastructure sites in Kremenchuk, with the majority of them hitting the oil refinery. According to Lunin, the bombardment caused fire at the oil refinery, but no one was injured.

As per local media report, the Kremenchuk refinery is Ukraine's largest oil refinery, with a design capacity of 18.6 million tonnes. After being hit by Russian missiles in early April, the plant was forced to shut down.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, Russian military bombed the Chernihiv region and schools on Thursday night.  Zelensky also stated that he is willing to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin and that "we must reach an accord," but that there is no deadline.

According to a senior Russian UN official, Finland and Sweden's choice to join NATO will convert them from neutral to hostile countries, making them possible targets for Russia.  The United Nations' highest human rights committee has passed a resolution directing its investigators to investigate into suspected rights abuses and violations in northern Ukraine following Russia's incursion.
