KIEV: Ukraine’s First Lady Olena Zelenska, the wife of President Volodymyr Zelensky, has released her first public statement in a letter addressed to the global community. She describes the hardships of war, particularly for women and children, in the statement. She also mentioned some of the children who have died as a result of the war so far: "An eight-year-old girl named Alice died when her grandfather tried to defend her on the streets of Okhtyrka." "Polina from Kyiv, who died with her parents in the bombardment." "Fourteen-year-old Arseniy was struck in the head by debris and was unable to be saved since an ambulance could not arrive in time due to the severe fires." "I shout out the names of these killed children first when Russia insists it isn't waging war against civilians," Olena Zelenska added. According to the BBC, she expressed gratitude to the world community and neighbouring countries for allowing refugees to enter. She also repeated the calls of her husband, Volodymyr Zelensky, for Western countries to declare a no-fly zone. NATO has objected to this operation since it would likely result in Western forces fighting militarily with Russian planes. "With this letter, I witness and declare to the world that the conflict in Ukraine is not a 'far away' conflict. This is a European conflict taking place along the EU's frontiers." "There will be no secure place in the world for any of us if we don't stop Russian President Vladimir Putin from threatening to ignite a nuclear war."
