NEW DELHI: The Ministry of External Affairs said here on Wednesday that  Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Netherlands Prime Minster Mark Rutte and discussed the ongoing situation in the war-torn country of Ukraine.

The two presidents spoke about the current situation in Ukraine and expressed their worry about the ongoing humanitarian crisis there. "Prime Minister Modi underlined India's consistent call for an end to hostilities and a return to the road of dialogue and diplomacy," the statement read. "He also welcomed the continuing talks between Russia and Ukraine and hoped for a quick conclusion."

Modi briefed Rutte on the progress of Indian individuals being evacuated from crisis zones, as well as India's aid in the form of emergency relief supplies, including medications for the afflicted people.  He also mentioned his virtual meeting with Prime Minister Rutte in April 2021 and indicated his wish to meet him in India as soon as possible, according to the report.

Since the conflict between Russia and Ukraine erupted, Prime Minister Modi has spoken to the leaders of both countries, urging them to engage in dialogue in order to find a peaceful settlement. He also urged all parties to work together to return to diplomatic conversations, saying that the best way to settle problems between Russia and NATO is through "honest and real" dialogue.
