Understanding the Perspectives: Indian Muslims' Views on the Israel-Palestine Conflict and Hamas

New Delhi: On Saturday, October 7, the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas carried out an unprecedented attack on Israel, launching approximately 5,000 rockets targeting residential areas. This attack was accompanied by a ground assault. Tragically, several innocent Israeli citizens lost their lives during the assault, while many others were injured and held hostage by armed Hamas terrorists.

Arabic media outlets reported that 52 Israelis had been captured, and it appeared that some of those captives had been killed. Disturbing videos circulating on social media depict Hamas militants parading what appeared to be stolen Israeli military vehicles, including a tank, through the streets. In one particularly harrowing video, a deceased Israeli soldier within Gaza is seen being dragged and trampled by an angry crowd of Palestinians.

Other videos portray uniformed Hamas terrorists capturing and torturing Israeli civilians and defense personnel. In some instances, these terrorists are seen parading naked bodies of Israeli citizens on the streets while shouting provocative slogans.

One particularly distressing video shows an Israeli woman being abducted by Hamas terrorists and forced into a Jeep. Surrounding militants were heard chanting slogans of 'Allah Hu Akbar' while the helpless Israeli woman remained their captive.

Amidst the brutality and suffering inflicted on innocent Israelis by Palestinian terrorists, some Indian and Pakistani Islamists, along with Indian liberals, took to microblogging site X to express support for the attack on Israel. This response raises questions about their endorsement of such brutal terrorist activities carried out by Islamist extremists.

Notably, Sharjeel Usmani, a columnist for the far-left website Newslaundry and former Aligarh Muslim University student leader, used the unfortunate incident to make disparaging remarks about Hindus. Usmani's post, expressing support for Palestine and disparaging Hindus, highlights his previous record of instigating communal hatred against the Hindu community.

India, however, has extended its support to Israel during this challenging period. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his thoughts and prayers for the innocent victims of the Hamas terrorist attack. Importantly, PM Modi characterized the attack as a terrorist act, effectively labeling Hamas as a terrorist organization. This clear message demonstrates India's stance against terrorism and its commitment to a balanced approach in the Israel-Palestine conflict. India's support for Israel in this crisis underscores its stand against terror activities, even as it maintains a balanced position in the region.
