Dalit minor gang-raped and murdered, 2 arrested

Lucknow: A Dalit girl was gang-raped and murdered in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district, police said on Sunday. The victim's family and villagers had arrested the two accused on Friday night and created a ruckus for about one and a half hours. The police reached the spot and pacified the people and arrested both the accused.  

According to the report, the 14-year-old girl from a Dalit family living in the Thana Mahavan area along with her nine-year-old sister had gone to the forest away from home to defecate around 8.30 pm on Friday. There, three youths of the village caught hold of the teenager in a mustard field and raped her. After the rape, the Dalit minor was strangled to death. According to the police, her younger sister somehow managed to escape home and informed the uncle about the incident. The uncle and other family members reached the spot and then there was a commotion among the villagers.  

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Trigun Bisen and Mahavan Circle Officer Alok Singh rushed to the spot. Police officials pacified the villagers and pacified the matter. Deshraj and Yogendra, who were caught by the villagers, were arrested by the police. Police are now conducting raids in search of the third absconding accused Sachin. Circle Officer (CO) Alok Singh has informed that it is prima facie a case of gang rape and murder of the teenager. A case has been registered under relevant sections and further investigation is underway.
