Mother-daughter wearing burqa was casting fake votes, UP police arrested from Rampur

Lucknow: A case of bogus voting by wearing a burqa came to light during the second phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh on Monday (February 14, 2022). The state unit of BJP has written to the Election Commission in this regard. In it, he accused polling officials of failing to confirm the identity of burqa-clad women before allowing them to cast their votes.

The BJP has alleged that polling booths are facilitating bogus voting by burqa-clad women and urged that the women wearing burqas be identified by women police constables. The party has also urged that women constables be deployed at all polling stations to monitor the polling process. In a letter, UP BJP unit general secretary JPS Rathore has requested the Election Commission to stop the elections till arrangements are made to verify the identity of the women who are going to vote in the curtains.

According to information, two burqa-clad women have been arrested from Azam Khan's constituency Rampur on charges of casting their votes for bogus votes. A total of six people have been arrested for allegedly casting fake votes, out of which four are women. The two women, who were arrested from Raza Degree College, are mother-daughter in a relationship and both of them were wearing burqas. They had already cast fake votes and were trying to cast their votes in the name of other women as well. In the areas where voting was held in this phase, the Muslim population influenced by the religious leaders of Barelvi and Deoband sects is very large. Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Mohammad Azam Khan, who is serving a jail term, is contesting from his stronghold Rampur.
