Venkaiah Naidu suggests minimum of 100 sittings of Parliament yearly

New Delhi: M. Venkaiah Naidu, Vice President of India and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, called for a minimum of 100 Parliamentary sittings per year and an adequate number of State Assemblies sittings to allow extensive talks on a variety of problems on Saturday. He urged political parties to have a consistent stance on this issue rather than speaking in various ways while in opposition and when in power.

Naidu also emphasised the importance of enhancing the functioning of Parliamentary Committees, which enable bipartisan conversations that transcend political divides. "All those in public life should be guided by discipline, time awareness, and ethics," the Vice President emphasised.

His statements were made today in the Central Hall of Parliament while speaking to a crowd at the Public Accounts Committee's (PAC) centenary celebration. The Vice President today called for a broader debate on the 'freebies' being given out to ensure the most efficient use of the country's precious resources. While speaking on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the PAC in New Delhi today, Naidu emphasised the importance of judicious, faithful, and economical use of the resources allocated by the Parliament to guarantee that every dollar is spent for achieving the desired socio-economic results. He said that the Public Accounts Committee, as the oldest and most powerful of all Parliamentary committees, is responsible for ensuring that resources are used efficiently.
