Jharkhand Assembly Election: Voting for second phase continues

Ranchi: In the second phase of Jharkhand assembly elections, voting is being held on 20 assembly seats on Saturday. It also includes the Jamshedpur East seat of CM Raghuvar Das, where the contest has become interesting due to the rebel leader Saryu Rai's fight against him. A total of 260 candidates are contesting on 20 seats of the state. Strong security arrangements have been made at all polling stations.

Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Kumar Choubey said that, 'There are a total of 48,25,038 voters in 20 assembly constituencies, out of which 23,93,437 are women and 90 third gender voters. A total of 6,066 polling booths have been set up for voting. There are 1,016 booths in urban and rest centers in rural areas. He informed that webcasting has been arranged from 1,662 polling stations.

Giving information to the police sources, it has been told that 40,000 soldiers have been deployed in the security arrangements for the second phase of voting. There will be tight security at polling booths located in Naxalite area. While voting will be held in East Jamshedpur and West Jamshedpur from seven to five in the morning, voting will be done only till three in the day, given the sensitivity of the other 18 seats.
