IMD predicts heavy rainfall in Mumbai, red alert issued

Mumbai: Heavy rains were forecasted after the Indian Meteorological Department issued a red alert for the next 24 hours in Mumbai, Ratnagiri and Raigad on late Friday i.e. July 3, 2020. On this, the Meteorological Department said that there is a possibility of heavy rainfall at many places in Palghar, Mumbai, Thane and Raigad on Saturday.

According to the Meteorological Department, before this, the Department has estimated heavy rainfall in Mumbai and surrounding areas on Saturday i.e. today, estimates from very heavy rainfall in some places. On the night of last Friday i.e. July 3, 2020, an official of the Meteorological Department told that a red alert has been issued for Mumbai, Raigad and Ratnagiri for the next 24 hours, i.e. between July 3 and July 4. There is a possibility of torrential rain in some places.

The Department said, 'On July 4, there is a possibility of torrential rain in some places in Palghar, Mumbai, Thane and Raigad districts. Heavy rainfall is expected at some places. Senior Director of Meteorological Department, Mumbai, Shubhangi Bhate had said on Thursday that it was expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in Ratnagiri district on Friday and Raigarh on Saturday. Significantly, there was also a lot of damage due to the cyclonic storm Nisarg that came in Ratnagiri district last month. He said that heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in some areas of Mumbai.
