New Delhi: In the last phase of the monsoon season, many parts of the country are receiving severe rains. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain in parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi in the next 24 hours. Heavy to very heavy rains may also occur in parts of West Bengal and Sikkim on Sunday (September 24). Several northeastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram and Arunachal, are expected to receive thundershowers and lightning till Tuesday. The Meteorological Department has informed that northeast Rajasthan and its surrounding areas are being affected by cyclonic circulation. Also, a low-pressure area has been found in south Haryana. Adding the details of the Western Disturbance, the department said, 'A trough is running from Low-Pressure System over South Haryana and a Trough is running in South Uttar Pradesh up to North Chhattisgarh.' In such a situation, there is a possibility of moderate to heavy rain in these areas today. Torrential rains wreak havoc in UP:- As many as 18 people have lost their lives in separate incidents of heavy rains, lightning, drowning and falling into borewells in different districts of Uttar Pradesh in the last two days. According to a government statement issued on Saturday, 5 people died due to heavy rains. Two people died in Muzaffarnagar and one each in Fatehpur, Aligarh and Gorakhpur. Three people died in Prayagraj and one each in Chandauli, Sitapur, Aligarh and Hardoi due to lightning in the state. At the same time, one person each died due to drowning in water in Fatehpur, Agra and Amethi.
