West Bengal Govt to set up Centre for Fiscal Policy, Public Finance

KOLKATA: The government of West Bengal would establish a Centre for Fiscal Policy and Public Finance within the Finance Department to carry out the Asian Development Bank-backed reforms.

According to a notification recently issued by the state finance department, the main purpose of this Center will be to conduct research and studies for better resource mobilisation, public expenditure rationalisation and enhancement of efficiency in public expenditure management, debt sustainability analysis, debt management, and related topics.

"It will also research, collect, document, and distribute global and national best practises in many sectors of the national and state economies, including social sector development." It will provide government personnel with "tailored and concentrated training on macro-fiscal issues and public policy, including public financial management," according to the statement.

In fact, the department has created 11 positions for this purpose, including one director, an additional director, a joint director, a deputy director, and data entry operators, in addition to Group D staff vacancies and research associate internships.
