WHO didn't use the word 'Indian' in a corona variant: Govt of India

New Delhi: The Government of India has objected to several media houses informing the variant of the Indian variant after the World Health Organization (WHO) raised concerns over a variant of the Corona virus. A statement issued by the Government of India said that several media reports cover news of global concern expressed over the corona variant B.1.617 of the WHO. Some media reports have written it as an Indian variant, which are baseless.

The statement said the Government of India clarifies that the WHO has not linked the word Indian variant to the B.1.617 variant of corona virus in its 32-page document. He has also not used the word Indian in his report. WHO said on Wednesday that a variant of corona has reached not only India but dozens of countries around the world. WHO expressed concern that the variant has been found in 44 countries.

WHO reported on Wednesday that the B.1.617 variant is transmitted more easily and faster than the original virus and that is why the number of corona infection cases and deaths in India is increasing rapidly. However, WHO also stressed that the effect of this variant can be reduced by vaccination.
