Why do Celebrate National Hugging Day on January 21

National Hugging Day is an annual event dedicated to hugging. Hugging Day was created by Kevin Zaborney and occurs annually on January 21st. The day was first celebrated on January 21, 1986 in Clio, Michigan, USA. The holiday is also observed in many other countries.

The easiest and most efficient method to show affection is through a hug, which is why January 21 is National Hugging Day. A hug is one of the most instinctual gestures, but it's not used nearly enough these days. This festival promotes hugging as a therapeutic method of expressing love and emotion.

Kevin Zaborney set up National Hugging Day in 1986. The granddaughter of Chase's Calendar of Events' owners was his acquaintance. Because of the period of time between the winter holiday season and the new year's birthdays, when people tend to feel down, Zaborney chose January 21 as the date. Although he never really believed it would take off, he also believed that Americans were frequently too ashamed to express affection in public and hoped that National Hugging Day would change that.

The word HUG is believed to come from the word HUGGA meaning “to comfort” in the Old Norse language, first appearing Aabout 450 years ago.

The origin of hugs, on the other hand, is less certain. What is known is that public hugging has only very recently—within the past 50 years--become fully accepted, setting it apart from other notable shows of affection like kissing.

Hugging has become widely accepted in recent years for two main reasons that have been the subject of debate: the less formality of dress code and manners between relationships, as well as the shifting behaviours of political figures in search of a more relatable, kind-hearted perception to the public.

We no longer even ponder the fact that public embracing was once regarded as impolite PDA. We give hugs to say hello to loved ones, bid them farewell, or congratulate them. to comfort someone or offer assistance. Before sporting events and performances start, we give each other hugs as a general display of affection in close relationships.
