DELHI, NEW DELHI: Congress leader and former Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said on Saturday that the Wildlife Protection (Amendment) Bill, 2021, was poorly prepared and had major flaws because it was not based on public consultation. Jairam Ramesh, the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology, Environment, Forest and Climate Change, took to Twitter to say: "Examining the 50 proposed amendments is a difficult task for the Standing Committee. We anticipate finishing this exercise in the next 45 days." On the proposed modification, the Committee received over 70 replies from experts and institutions. "To be honest, this is what the Ministry should have done all along," he remarked. Since it was tabled in Parliament in December last year, there has been tremendous outcry over the planned modifications, and campaigners have criticised the government's motive and the hasty manner in which it was set to be passed. The government moved the Amendment Bill to the Standing Committee after Jairam Ramesh wrote a complaint letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker.
