New Delhi: The Supreme Court has fixed the day of January 28, 2020 to hear the petition related to the promotion quota for SC and ST in government jobs. Earlier, the Center had urged the apex court to send its 2018 order excluding the creamy layer of the SC / ST community to the seven-member bench for reconsideration. A five-member constitution bench said in 2018 that rich people belonging to scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, ie the creamy layer, cannot be given the benefit of admission in college and reservation in government jobs. The bench headed by Chief Justice Bobde, hearing public interest petitions on the issue, had said that the aspect of keeping the SC / ST's creamy layer out of the benefit of reservation or not will be considered after two weeks. A new petition was filed by Samata Andolan Samiti and former IAS officer OP Shukla. A PIL has been requested to conduct a rational investigation to identify the creamy layer of SC / ST and to separate them from the non-creamy layer of SC / ST.
