Wipro fired 300 employees, chairman explains reason

New Delhi: Indian IT giant Wipro has sacked 300 of its employees. All these employees have been expelled for moonlighting i.e. working in two places simultaneously. Wipro Chairman Rishad Premji said at a conference organised by the All India Management Association on Wednesday (September 21) that employees can have a transparent discussion with the organization regarding their second or weekend work. However, we have looked for 300 employees who were working for direct competitors. They have no place in our company.

Rishad Premji has been a vocal critic of Moonlighting and had already made it clear that there is no place for such employees in the company. On Wednesday, he said that he received a huge amount of hate mail after speaking on moonlighting, but he stood by his point. Moonlighting means doing more than one thing at a time and working from a distance (work from home), which became a norm during the Corona period and is still prevalent at many workplaces.

Let me tell you that moonlighting work came into the headlines when recently Rishad Premji compared this practice to fraud in a tweet. He had said that there is a lot of nonsense about people moonlighting in the IT industry, but simply or simply put, it is cheating. Later other IT firms also commented on the issue supporting Rishad Premji's views.
