World Championship: Annu Rani created history in javelin throw final

New Delhi: India's top female javelin thrower Annu Rani has created history. Annu Rani, after performing brilliantly, has secured her place in the finals of the World Athletics Championship. She is the first Indian woman to reach the finals of this event. Annu threw a spear 62.43 meters away in the qualification round on Monday, which not only earned her a place in the finals but also improved her national record. She was ranked 5th among all participants in qualification.

Annu was placed in Group A in the qualification phase. She threw the javelin 57.05 meters in his first attempt. In the second attempt, her javelin covered a distance of 62.43 meters which is better than her national record of 62.34 meters. She made this national record in the Federation Cup held in Patiala in March this year. She threw the spear 60.50 meters in the third attempt, which placed her third in her group. First place was Liu Shiying of China (63.48) while Rotej Martina (62.87) of Slovenia was in second place. Meanwhile, other Indian athletes Archana Sushindran (women's 200m) and Anjali Devi (women's 400m) failed to advance from the first round.
